Kratka zgodovina in temeljna ideja UWC gibanja

UWC je bil ustanovljen leta 1962, ko je Atlantic College v južnem Walesu sprejel prvo generacijo dijakov. V časih, ko je bila hladna vojna na vrhuncu, so na atlantski šoli združili dijake različnih narodnosti, da bi ti s pomočjo izobrazbe, sodelovanja in razumevanja pomagali soustvarjati boljši jutri. 

Zamisel UWC izobraževanja je delo nemškega pedagoga Kurta Hahna, ki je kasneje postal eden od ustanoviteljev UWC gibanja. Hahn je verjel, da bi morala šola dijake pripraviti na življenje, ne le na univerzo. Izobrazba bi jim morala pomagati, da bi razvili v vztrajnost in možnost občutka tako uspehov kot neuspehov. 

Zamisel, da bi lahko s skupnim šolanjem mladih s celega sveta posledično zmanjšal možnosti za meddržavne konflikte v prihodnosti, je kmalu obrodila sadove, in gibanje je bilo ustvarjeno. 

UWC danes:

-    UWC državni komiteji v več kot 150-ih državah
-    Več kot 60 000 dijakov se je izšolalo na UWC šolah
